Terms and Conditions

Luxor Library – Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing, using, or registering for any services provided by the Luxor Library, users acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to be legally bound by these Terms and Conditions. Continued use of the library’s services constitutes acceptance of any future modifications to these terms.

2. Eligibility and Registration

Membership is open to individuals aged 16 and above, including students, researchers, and members of the general public. Users under the age of 16 must obtain explicit consent from a parent or legal guardian. All users must provide accurate, current, and complete registration information and are responsible for updating this information as necessary.

3. User Responsibilities

Users agree to use all library materials and services solely for personal, educational, or research purposes. Any commercial use, duplication, or distribution of library resources is strictly prohibited. Users are expected to treat library staff, other patrons, and materials with respect and must comply with all borrowing limits, return deadlines, and conduct policies. Submission of false information or misuse of services may result in suspension or termination of membership.

4. Library Rights and Disclaimers

The Luxor Library reserves the right to deny, suspend, or terminate any membership at its discretion in the event of policy violations or misuse of services. The library may modify, suspend, or discontinue services at any time without prior notice. While efforts are made to maintain uninterrupted access, the library does not guarantee availability and shall not be liable for any interruptions or technical issues that may arise.

5. Borrowing and Access Terms
Each member may borrow a maximum of two (2) books for a loan period of one (1) week. Renewals may be granted only if no other member has placed a request for the item. Late returns will trigger reminder notifications; repeated infractions may result in fines, temporary suspension, or permanent loss of borrowing privileges. Users are responsible for returning materials in good condition. Lost or damaged items will incur replacement or repair charges as assessed by the library.

6. Fees and Payments

Membership fees are set at €1 per month for students and €2 or €3 per month for non-students. All payments must be made through the secure Stripe system integrated into the Luxembourg University Press website. Fees are non-refundable once processed, except in cases of documented administrative error. Members experiencing financial hardship may apply for a scholarship; see Section 7 for further details.

7. Library Membership Scholarship

Students who are unable to afford the membership fee may apply for a scholarship by sending an email to library@unipress.lu. The application must include a short résumé, proof of current enrollment, and a brief statement (100–150 words) explaining their interest in using the library. Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis with no limit to the number granted. Applicants will be informed of the outcome within two (2) weeks of submission.

8. Privacy and Data Use

The Luxor Library is committed to protecting user privacy and handling all personal data in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Personal information collected during registration, payment, and scholarship applications will be used solely for administrative purposes. By using our services, users consent to the processing and secure storage of their data. For further information, refer to our full Privacy Policy at https://unipress.lu/privacy.

9. Digital Services Use

If and when digital resources become available, access will be governed by these Terms and any additional conditions set forth at the time. Users are prohibited from copying, distributing, altering, or sharing digital content without prior written authorization from the library or content rights holders.

10. Amendments to the Terms

The Luxor Library reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. Any changes will be posted on the official website, and continued use of the services following such updates shall constitute acceptance of the revised terms. Users are advised to review the Terms periodically to remain informed of any changes.

11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Any disputes arising out of or relating to the use of library services shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Luxembourg.
